(This message was added in version 4.2.0.) in /home2/c235178/classiccarauto.com/wordpress2/wp-includes/functions.php on line 6131I’ve been on a parts hunt for my 64 Impala for a couple of years now. With the economy down I’m seeing more parts circulating for a reasonable price,…but then so is everyone else cause they sell as fast as you can list them.

I’ve seen plenty of 64 Impala buckets selling for around $250 in the southwest region where they must be plentiful to as high as $600 in the north and east. I live in the mid atlantic and strangely enough there don’t seem to be a lot of 64 Impala parts circulating here, at least nothing I desired. A pair turned up about a month ago in northern Maryland but sold the same day.

I had a line on a pair of 64 Impala buckets in Allentown, PA just before that, but the guy never sent me pictures or returned any of my emails. I spoke to the guy once, and he seemed like he didn’t want to be bothered. I kinda wonder why he placed the ad to begin with.

A couple of weeks ago (March 21st, 2009) I was hunting for bucket seats for my 64 impala once again. I answered an ad on craigslist under auto parts in the Martinsburg, WV region. The guy (Kurt Parker) said he had 2 sets, one he wanted $400 and the other he wanted $600. Of course I want the $400 pair since I’m gonna re-cover them anyway.

I went out to his place the following Saturday. He’s an old school parts guy who had been stripping cars that people gave him back in the 70’s. He said there was a time would when you could only give these cars away so classic cars for parts were plentiful. He liked to remove and hang onto the options like power windows, air conditioning, tilt columns, power seats etc.

Hearing that, I had to ask if he had the tilt column for my 64 Impala or the power windows. He said he did but wasn’t sure if the column was out of a 64 Impala. I looked at it, and it didn’t look right. Since I already bought the bucket seats for $400 he told me to take it home and match it up to be sure. He said he needed to round up the power window parts and it may take him another week, so I could bring the tilt column back if it wasn’t correct when I come back for the power windows. He still had to pull the wiring harness and switches for the power windows out of the 64 Impala.

I must exude a feeling of trust.

So,… he called me back on the 1st of April to say he had the wiring harness for me and I could come and get the whole thing. We agreed on Saturday the 4th.

The drive is about an hour and a half to Berryville, VA from Baltimore. Saturday turned out to be a much nicer day for the drive than the previous weekend which was rainy. I brought my shop manual this time so I would have a good visual reference. I brought my manual regulators too.
